Age Groups Competition

On February 24th – 26th, VTSC swimmers traveled to Juneau to compete in Age Groups! Josie McNelly, Grace Keller, Gretchen Snelders, and Max Snelders represented Valdez this year. Several other VTSC swimmers also had qualifying times, but did not travel (Emily Doyel, Kyler Siddoway, Riley McNelly, Tess Turnbull & Jacob Balowski). The Valdez swimmers competed with other swimmers in their age group from around the state of Alaska, (20 other teams) and did quite well, cutting time in most events. Grace Keller was named “Swimmer of the Meet” by Coach Overduyn, because she cut time in all 5 of the events she swam in.

In April, VTSC will send these swimmers and a few others to participate in Junior Olympics in Anchorage. WTG kids! And thank you Valdez Residents, for the many ways you support our club! You are appreciated!

Banana Meet

VTSC will host the annual Banana Meet March 23rd and 24th, 2012. All Torpedoes can participate. There will be a mandatory Board Meeting on March 8th at 5:30 and Tuesday, March 20th. Planning for this event takes many hands, so please jump in to help. If you can’t attend the meeting, but are willing to lend a hand, contact Wendy Balowski at 835-5717 or 255-5717. An immediate need is the Clerk of Course. Training provided!

Refunds

If your child swam 3rd quarter, read on. VTSC is willing to give a refund to families that lost time in the pool in January, due to the pool closure while the HS roof was being shoveled. Contact Wendy Balowski if you’ve lost sleep over this issue and want some money back! J We’ll make things right!

Postal Swim Meet

There will be a Friday Only Postal Swim Meet on April 6th.

Ididaswim Fundraiser

This event happened! Packets and money are due March 7th. Thanks to all who contributed!

Thanks United Way!

This year our Club received $3688 from United Way. These funds will be used mainly to support our Learn To Swim program. If you were a donor, VTSC says “thanks”! Other donations have also been received from various businesses around town.

Spring Break

Swim practice will continue for those of you that will be in Valdez during the Spring Break, March 12th – 16th. Same time, same place J.

Learn To Swim

LTS lessons will be offered again April 23rd – May 4th. Jessica Kulm will be coaching the lessons and registration will be announced later.

Summer Update

Hi Torpedo Families! As some of you may know, VTSC made a commitment
to pick up trash 3x/year for 3 years, by Mile 11 to the start of the
Keystone Canyon. Usually the Club gets together and makes a fun
afternoon of it, however, this summer appears to be a bit more
complicated! So with all of our busy schedules, the VTSC Board is
asking families to stop at their convenience and pick up trash
throughout the summer. The children under 11 need to stay on the access
road and are not permitted on the right of way along the main
highway. If you have any questions, please reply to me, or call our
new president, Wendy Balowski.

Save the dates: The next Learn to Swim lessons will happen in early-
August before the start of the school year. LTS is for children ages
4-10 that need to learn how to swim. Free!

Silver Salmon Swim Camp will also happen in early-August; dovetailing
with the LTS program. More details to follow with regards to
registration and fees.

VTSC Board members are in the process of hiring a new swim coach since
our dear Coach Jessica Kulm resigned.

And as always, if you want your name deleted from this mailing list,
please reply.
